Factoid of the day

For most Infocom games, the packaging and "feelies" were designed to complement the story. For Wishbringer, though, the packaging was conceptualized before the game. Brian Moriarty reasoned that a magic ring or a glowing stone would make a great "feelie" to include in a game box. His peers thought it was a great idea, too, so he began developing Wishbringer, a story about a glowing magical stone.

First of all, get to someplace where you can see the duel.
Now that you're in the Gallery, do you see anyway to transport yourself down to the dance floor?

Alack, alas! Lafond has killed Nicholas! Where shall I turn? What can I do? What shall become of me?

Some awfully unpleasant things are going to happen to you unless you RESTORE to an earlier point in the game. And this time, rescue Nicholas Jamison!

They're duelling on the beach! How can I stop them?!

Men will play their little wars. In this case, you can do nothing to stop them.
However, you can stop a cold-blooded murder from happening just after. Keep an eye on Crulley.

Crulley's about to kill Nicholas! What can I do?

There's no time to get to Crulley, and yelling to Nicholas will only bring disastrous results. There are at least three long distance remedies.
One obvious remedy involves the pistol dropped by Lafond in his jump. Another method is explained starting with clue E. The third way out is detailed in clue H.
LOAD THE GUN WITH THE GUNPOWDER. (You will have found the gunpowder in the Guard's Bunkroom.)
Then you may either FIRE GUN or SHOOT CRULLEY. (See the explanation of the various conclusions.)
Another method uses the stone you step on as you run on the beach.
And the garter.
PUT THE STONE IN THE GARTER. SLING THE STONE AT CRULLEY. (See the explanation of the various conclusions.)
